Your Life And Soul
Based in Addlestone, serving Byfleet & the surrounding Surrey area
Some things are simply too heavy to carry on your own. Whether life has worn you down slowly or something specific has knocked you sideways, counselling gives you room to understand it and find a way forward.
Too far to travel? Online sessions available.
I'm Lindsay, an integrative counsellor registered with the BACP, and I support people from Byfleet and across Surrey. My practice is based in Addlestone, a short drive away, making it accessible whether you're travelling from the village itself, nearby West Byfleet, or prefer the flexibility of online sessions.
Approach
Working integratively means I don't push everyone through one fixed method. I draw on several therapeutic traditions and shape the work around you: your history, your circumstances, and the things you genuinely want to change. No two people arrive with the same story, so no two pieces of work look quite the same.
In practice, that flexibility shows up from week to week. One session might trace how earlier experiences still colour your relationships now. Another might be far more practical, exploring ways to steady yourself when panic rises, or how to handle a conversation at home that keeps going wrong.
Byfleet still has a real village feel, tucked between Brooklands and the Basingstoke Canal, yet the people I see here carry thoroughly modern pressures: long commutes, demanding roles, and family lives that rarely pause. Often the strain builds so gradually that genuine rest starts to feel unfamiliar.
My job isn't to grade how you've coped or hand you a set of instructions. It's to hold a steady, unhurried space where you can be honest, make sense of what has happened, and build ways of coping that actually fit the life you're living.
Services
Growing up now looks nothing like it did a generation ago. Comparison is constant, friendship groups play out online as well as in the playground, and academic pressure seems to start earlier every year. For a lot of young people that adds up to worry they can't quite name.
I work with children and teenagers who are struggling with anxiety, shaky confidence, big feelings that spill over into anger, trouble at school socially or academically, and the fallout from family changes such as separation or loss.
What counselling offers them is somewhere that's genuinely their own, not managed by parents or monitored by teachers. For teenagers in particular that independence matters, and learning to name and understand their emotions becomes a skill they keep for life.
By adulthood the responsibilities stack up: work, relationships, perhaps children, ageing parents, money, and somewhere underneath all of it you're meant to be looking after yourself too. When something has to give, it's usually your own wellbeing that slips first.
I see adults living with anxiety and low mood, work and relationship stress, anger that feels hard to contain, the weight of past trauma, grief, and that quiet sense that life hasn't turned out the way you hoped.
Whatever you bring, counselling is space to look at it without distraction or judgement. Together we work out what sits beneath the struggle, process the difficult feelings, question the thoughts that keep tripping you up, and put steadier foundations in place.
Neurodiversity is a central part of my work. I support neurodivergent children, teenagers and adults, as well as their families, whether there's a formal diagnosis of ADHD or autism, an assessment still pending, or simply a growing sense that this might be part of the picture.
Parents often come to me worn out and feeling unheard by schools and services. I offer them a dedicated space to think through the daily challenges and find approaches that actually hold up at home rather than only on paper.
With young people, the focus is on helping them value how their mind works, manage the parts of school and socialising that feel hard, and build resilience. Adults exploring a late diagnosis are just as welcome, and counselling can help you re-read your past with far more compassion.
We're told pregnancy and new motherhood should feel joyful, so when the reality is harder, women often end up feeling isolated and guilty on top of everything else.
I have specialist experience with Hyperemesis Gravidarum, the severe pregnancy sickness that goes far beyond ordinary morning sickness and can overwhelm every part of daily life. My extended 90-minute HG debrief sessions give you space to process the whole experience properly.
I also support women through antenatal anxiety and depression, postnatal depression, birth trauma, difficulties bonding, and the sheer adjustment of becoming a parent. Finding it hard doesn't make you ungrateful; it makes you human.

Byfleet
Byfleet is a village within the Borough of Woking, close to the historic Brooklands site -- the birthplace of British motorsport and aviation -- and the Basingstoke Canal, which runs nearby. It sits within easy reach of Woking, West Byfleet, and Addlestone.
People come to counselling for all sorts of reasons, and there's no such thing as a problem too small or too large to bring. Anxiety, low mood, stress, grief, relationship difficulties or simply feeling stuck are all valid reasons to reach out.
There's no need to wait until things feel unmanageable to reach out. Whether you want to work through something specific or simply talk to someone impartial, you're welcome to get in touch and we can find an approach that suits you.
The Basingstoke Canal towpath near Byfleet offers a quiet spot for a walk and some reflection after a session. Building time for yourself into your day -- even just 30 minutes -- is part of prioritising your wellbeing.
FAQ
Yes. Because I work both face to face in nearby Addlestone and online by secure video, sessions can travel with you. Many Byfleet clients mix in-person and online appointments around their week, and some choose a fortnightly rhythm when time is tight.
It varies from person to person. Some people feel lighter simply from having somewhere to speak openly; deeper change tends to build over several sessions. We review how things are going together, so the pace always stays yours.
Not at all. Plenty of people arrive knowing only that something feels off. Part of the work is putting words to it. You don't need a tidy explanation to begin, just a willingness to talk.
Yes. Choosing to be pregnant again after Hyperemesis Gravidarum can stir up grief and fear alongside hope. We can process what the last pregnancy took from you and put a plan in place for support if you go ahead.
Very. Many children, particularly neurodivergent ones, hold themselves together all day and release the pressure once they feel safe at home. Counselling gives them their own space to unpack it, and gives parents ways to understand what's happening.
For most concerns, yes. What makes counselling work is the relationship and the thinking we do together, and that carries over video just as well. You mainly need a private spot where you won't be overheard and a steady connection.
Individual sessions are £65 for 50 minutes, and specialist HG debrief sessions are £100 for 90 minutes. I don't bill insurers directly, but I can provide receipts you may be able to claim back depending on your policy. If cost is a genuine barrier, do ask, as a limited number of reduced-rate spaces are sometimes available.
Taking the first step can feel daunting, but it is often the most important one. I offer a free initial telephone consultation where we can have a chat about what you are looking for.
